What Happens in Vegas

HITS THE JACKPOT ON DVD & BLU-RAY!

MONDAY 8 SEPTEMBER 2008

Let the battle of the sexes commence in this year’s stand out comedy What Happens in Vegas starring Hollywood A-listers Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher.  A hilarious cocktail of booze, bitching and back-stabbing; What Happens in Vegas is released to buy as a single disc DVD and as a Special 2 disc ‘Jackpot Edition’ on DVD plus Blu-ray from Monday 8 September courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

What Happens in Vegas ‘Jackpot Edition’ DVD and Blu-ray will feature an extended version of the film plus 2 hours of outrageous deleted scenes, featurettes, gag reel, commentary and more!   It will also include a DIGITAL COPY of the film that allows you to transfer the entire movie onto a portable device such as your iPod or laptop.

When Joy (Diaz; There’s Something About Mary) flees to Vegas after being cruelly dumped by her fiancée she meets Jack (Kutcher; Butterfly Effect), a laid back carpenter who has just been fired from his job by his own father.  After discovering the hotel they are staying in has mistakenly booked them the same room, they decide to hit Vegas hard with a night of drink-fuelled fun and debauchery.  But the pair wake up with more than a hangover when they realise they’ve got hitched and when Jack wins the jackpot - a cool three million dollars - with Joy’s quarter... the battle begins!

War is waged as the pair tries for divorce through the courts but a not-so-forgiving judge rules them to ‘six months hard marriage’ in an attempt to work things out in order to share the winnings. The couple devise ever-escalating and vengeful schemes in an attempt to undermine the other and get their hands on the money.  But how far will they go before the other cracks and cries divorce, giving up their half of the fortune?

The hysterical Rob Corddry (Blades of Glory) and Lake Bell (Boston Legal) star as Hater and Tipper - Jack and Joy’s prospective partners in crime who happily advise them of sneaky tactics to trick the other out of the prize money.  Queen Latifa (Chicago) stars as the couple’s wedding counsellor, Dr Twitchell who guides the newlyweds through their six month court order.

Dealing a hand of debauchery, indulgence and a delicious disregard for fair play, What Happens in Vegas is sure to bring out your competitive side this September!

MIKE LEIGH’S NAKED ON DVD

RELEASED ON 18 AUGUST 2008

Thin Man Films and Spirit Entertainment proudly present writer-director Mike Leigh’s brilliant and controversial award-winning film Naked on DVD, released individually for the first time on 18 August 2008, priced £15.99 RRP.

Originally released in 1993, Naked is regarded by many as Mike Leigh’s masterpiece. Daring and abrasive, the film follows the eloquent and anarchic Johnny (David Thewlis) on his dark journey through a corrosive world. Rejecting all those who would care for him, the volcanic Johnny hurls himself into a nocturnal journey through London, colliding with the desperate and the dispossessed. A profound and often shocking film, it bursts with ideas and contradictions, and is filtered with love, sex and black humour.

With a virtuoso script and sensational performances from Thewlis and co-stars Katrin Cartlidge and Lesley Sharp, Naked was the winner of the Best Director and Best Actor prizes at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival. The DVD comes complete with an audio commentary by Mike Leigh, David Thewlis and Katrin Cartlidge.

The release of Naked will coincide with that of the DVD debut of Mike Leigh’s latest feature film Happy-Go-Lucky, which will also be released on 18 August 2008 from Momentum Pictures. A laugh-out-loud comedy about having fun, looking for love and getting on with life, Happy-Go-Lucky stars Sally Hawkins as Poppy, a young primary school teacher who is as carefree and anarchic as she is focused and responsible. Life-affirming, fresh and funny, Happy-Go-Lucky won a Silver Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Mike Leigh is one of Britain’s most respected film directors, with a career spanning nearly forty years. Always creating his own original screenplays by working in a unique way with his actors, Leigh has earned world-wide critical acclaim for his acutely observed work. While his movies challenge the audience to ask questions and to reflect, they never fail to be moving, funny and highly entertaining. Mike Leigh has won a number of prizes at major international film festivals. Most notably he won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1996 for Secrets & Lies. He has been nominated for an Academy Award® five times, twice each for Secrets & Lies and Vera Drake (Best Original Screenplay and Best Director) and once for Topsy-Turvy (Best Original Screenplay).

The Mike Leigh DVD Collection, showcasing the writer-director’s outstanding ten feature films in a stunning box set is also currently available to buy, priced £59.99 RRP.

BROOKLYN RULES

DVD Released 11 August

Alec Baldwin (The Departed), Freddie Prinze Jr (I Know What You Did Last Summer), Scott Caan (Ocean’s Thirteen), Jerry Ferrara (Entourage) and Mena Suvari (American Beauty) star in BROOKLYN RULES, a gripping gangster thriller that will appeal to fans of The Sopranos and A Bronx Tale and the genre at large.  Icon Home Entertainment releases the film to own on DVD on 11 August 2008.

Written by three-time Emmy winner Terence Winter (The Sopranos), Brooklyn Rules is a powerful story of loyalty, friendship, and sacrifice. Set in Brooklyn circa 1985 against the backdrop of John Gotti’s rise to power, the film revolves around three lifelong friends whose different ambitions threaten to shake their enduring bond.

Michael (Prinze Jr.), the narrator, is a lovable charmer with the soul of a con man who successfully scams his way into the pre-law program at Columbia University. In contrast to Michael’s desire to leave the Brooklyn streets behind, his close friend Carmine (Caan), a handsome ladies man enamoured by the Mafia lifestyle, wants nothing more than to stay there. Rounding out the trio is Bobby (Ferrara), an endearing cheapskate who longs for a simple life of working at the Post Office and settling down with his fiancée.

While at Columbia, Michael falls for a beautiful young student named Ellen (Suvari), a society girl whom he initially wins over with his preppy schoolboy cover. As their relationship blossoms, leaving the streets behind seems increasingly possible, but when Carmine catches the eye of Caesar (Baldwin), a feared mobster who controls their Brooklyn neighbourhood, Michael and Bobby are drawn into that world despite their reluctance to get involved.

Brooklyn Rules comes down to the choices faced by three young men when the right path is not always the easiest to follow, and when being a loyal friend can mean making the ultimate sacrifice.

 SPORTS MOVIE

 RELEASED ON DVD

BY TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX HOME ENTERTAINMENT

 18 AUGUST 2008

Keep your eye on the ball!

They shoot, they score!  From the producers of Wedding Crashers, Sports Movie is the laugh-out-loud comedy that spoofs the best sports movies ever made!  Starring David Koechner (Anchorman) and Carl Weathers (Rocky), Sports Movie takes on the likes of Rocky, Field of Dreams, Seabiscuit, Blue Crush, Stick It and The Longest Yard, and slam-dunks its way onto DVD on 18 August 2008 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Coach Fields (Koechner) is pathetic.  He has the distinction of being the worst coach in the history of sports that anyone can recall.  However, although incompetent and seemingly hopeless, he is convinced by fellow coach Freddie Wiseman (Weathers) to return to the field for one last shot.  Assuring his long-suffering wife Barb (Melora Hardin) that he will not ignore his family, Coach moves them to Plainfolk, Texas where he hopes to redeem himself and his reputation.

However, as coach of the football team at Heartland State University, he is saddled with a team of misfits, most of whom don’t know the first thing about the game.  It’s up to Coach to use his unorthodox methods to whip this group of rag-tags into shape – both on and off the field.  The team begins to improve, even making it to the South-SouthWest Conference Championship where they must face their fiercest opponents yet – The Lone Star Unbeatables.  The question raised in every great sports movie must be answered – who will win the final showdown?

Directed by Tom Brady (The Hot Chick), Sports Movie is packed with special features including a director’s commentary and hilarious featurettes.  Don’t be a loser with Sports Movie on DVD this August!

Happy-Go-Lucky

Released on DVD 18 August

Momentum Pictures presents the release of Happy-Go-Lucky on DVD, a laugh-out-loud comedy about having fun, looking for love and getting on with life.  From one of the UK’s most respected writer-directors, Mike Leigh, Happy-Go-Lucky is released to buy and rent on DVD on 18 August 2008, priced £19.99 RRP.

Sally Hawkins (Little Britain, Vera Drake, Tipping the Velvet) stars as Poppy, a consistently cheerful primary school teacher, who doesn’t let anyone or anything get her down.  A free spirit, she is open and generous – as funny and anarchic as she is focused and responsible.

Happy-Go-Lucky is set in contemporary London and follows Poppy’s adventures as she goes about her daily life, living with her flatmate Zoe (Alexis Zegerman).  A friend to many and an eternal fun-lover, Poppy is one of life’s sunny and relaxed characters - for example, when her bicycle is stolen, she simply regrets that she didn’t get the chance to say ‘goodbye’ to it.

The incident prompts her to learn to drive, and Poppy starts trying to spread some sunshine over her new driving instructor, Scott, played by Eddie Marsan (Vera Drake, The Illusionist).  He’s having none of it, though – the grumpy, aggressive neurotic Scott is the complete antithesis of Poppy, and their relationship provides lashings of laughs.

The movie sees Poppy confronting some of life’s harshest realities and dealing with them head-on, while never losing her wonderful sense of humour.  Life-affirming, fresh and funny, Happy-Go-Lucky won a Silver Bear Award for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Mike Leigh is one of Britain’s best-loved film directors, with a career spanning nearly forty years. Always creating his own original screenplays by working in a unique way with his actors, Leigh has earned world-wide critical acclaim for his acutely observed work. While his movies challenge the audience to ask questions and to reflect, they never fail to be moving, funny and highly entertaining.  Mike Leigh has won a number of prizes at major international film festivals - most notably he won Best Director for Naked at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1996 for Secrets & Lies.  He has been nominated for an Academy Award® five times, twice each for Secrets and Lies and Vera Drake (Best Original Screenplay and Best Director) and once for Topsy-Turvy (Best Original Screenplay).
